Popular convenience store chain Wawa opening location in Johnston County
A popular convenience store chain is putting a location in the Triangle area.Wawa has filed plans to build a store in at NC 42 and Old Drugstore Road in the Cleveland community in Johnston County.The site is a vacant lot. Wawa, a staple in the Northeast, particularly in its home state of Pennsylvania, opened its first North Carolina location in May on the Outer Banks.Wawa plans to build at least 80 stores across the Tar Heel State in the next 10 years.About 15 of those stores will be in the Fayetteville area.It appears most of Wawa's footprint in North Carolina will avoid head-to-head competition with another popular Pennsylvania-based chain, Sheetz, which has focused its locations in the central part of the state.
DMV operations remain “inadequate” with lines down the sidewalk
North Carolina DMV offices face ongoing scrutiny from state legislators amid customer complaints and long lines that extend out of the building and down the sidewalk. Video footage from Rep. Erin Paré, R-Wake, shows over 30 people waiting in line down a sidewalk at the DMV office in Fuquay-Varina on the south side of Raleigh. As seen in the video, multiple people anticipated a lengthy wait and came prepared with folding chairs. Paré shared the video to social media over the weekend with a letter requesting DMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin join her and other elected leaders for a site visit.

Desiree Etheridge, age 50, of North Carolina, pleaded guilty to grand larceny in Suffolk County Court on Monday, July 29. According to prosecutors, Etheridge worked as a facility manager at Eden II in St. James. As part of her responsibilities, she regularly withdrew cash from residents’ bank accounts to place in their petty cash envelope so they could go shopping.
