Beaver Falls Fire Department receives grant for protective equipment

BEAVER FALLS ― A Beaver County fire department has been selected for a grant to protect the men and women who work to keep their community safe.

According to local representatives, the Beaver Falls Fire Department was selected as a recipient of the Department of Homeland Security’s Fiscal Year 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), which will provide $187,428.57 for equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources to keep communities safe from fire-related hazards.

“The Regional AFG Grant the Beaver Falls Fire Department received along with the Big Beaver and Koppel Fire Departments will allow us to purchase personal protective equipment to ensure that every member of each department has compliant gear,” said Mark Stowe, fire chief and director of code enforcement for the City of Beaver Falls. “This is vitally important to protect our members from the dangers of fire which will allow us to better protect our communities. We thank Congressman Deluzio for his support, and we look forward to working with Congressman Deluzio moving forward as we form the Big Beaver Falls Area Fire District.”

The new grant funds will provide the Beaver Falls Fire Department with head-to-toe protective gear, matching what other local fire departments currently use for turnout gear for their firefighters. According to a release from the department, the department will be required to contribute non-federal funds equal to or greater than 5% of the funds awarded to them.
