Firearm Possession: Juvenile Caught with Weapon in Rocky Mount

Rocky Mount, North Carolina:

A press release from the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office stated, on January 17, 2024, the Crash Reduction Unit conducted a traffic stop in the city of Rocky Mount, North Carolina for a motor vehicle violation.

Throughout the investigation, a search was conducted of the occupants and the backseat juvenile passenger.

The backseat passenger was in possession of a firearm, which was located down their pants.

After seizing the firearm, it was determined the firearm was built with an internal switch. Making it an automatic weapon.

The driver of the vehicle was cited and released. The juvenile was taken into custody and processed through the juvenile petition process. He was charged with gelony possession of weapons of mass destruction, a misdemeanor carryinh concealed gun, and misdemeanor possession of a firearm by a minor.

Traffic stops will continue to actively be happening throughout Edgecombe County with the focus of eradicating the streets from guns according to Sheriff C. Atkinson.
