Philipsburg, Pa. — A 19-year-old went on a two-day crime spree breaking into several properties throughout Centre County. Lionel Gene Gilpatrick, of Philipsburg, was charged over three cases for breaking into three different places in early July, according to a complaint. Cresson, Pa. – Mount Aloysius College is launching a hybrid certificate pathway for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree and are looking for a streamlined path to become a teacher starting in fall 2024. In this new accelerated certificate program, students will use their degrees in English, biology, history, or political science and become certified to teach those topics to grades 7-12 in just four semesters.

It was a lost weekend for the Altoona Curve, which lost all three games to Somerset despite three strong pitching performances. The Curve lost 2-0 on Friday, 2-1 on Saturday in a game in which Thoams Harrington struck out ten, and 3-2 yesterday. Hunter Barco made his Double-A debut and threw three scoreless one-hit innings, striking out five. Bubba Chandler returned from the inactive list and took the loss, giving up all three runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts in five innings.

A JetBlue flight from Cancun, Mexico landed safely in Boston Friday evening after crew members reported smoke in the cockpit, the Federal Aviation Administration said. JetBlue Flight 772 landed at Logan International Airport at about 5:10 p.m., the agency said in a statement. The Airbus 321 had taken off at Cancun International Airport.

Rutgers baseball graduate Nick Cimillo moves up to Double-A with Pirates
BRIDGEWATER — It was only fitting that Nick Cimillo made his Double-A debut in his old stomping grounds. The Rutgers graduate was promoted to the Eastern League on Friday as the Altoona Curve started a three-game series with the Somerset Patriots. He played first base and batted sixth, finishing 0-for-3 in Altoona’s 2-0 defeat.

DelGrosso’s Park mascot Buddy Bear shows off some of the 35 boxes of food collected for the St. Vincent de Paul Food for Families Soup Kitchen during Altoona Mirror Day on Thursday. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., park-goers who donated at least two nonperishable food items received an All-Day Fun Pass for $20. The food collected filled nearly four pallet boxes, which were delivered by the Mirror to the soup kitchen.
