BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — The Beckley Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce’s 2023 Leadership program graduates are giving back to the community with a garden.

The group planted the garden Wednesday, June 5, 2024, on the grounds of the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority.

Kelly Gunnoe, a graduate, said 200 pumpkin seeds are now planted in the ground.

Raleigh County Commission President David Tolliver remembered as having a “heart shaped like Raleigh County”

By autumn, she said, there will be jackolantern pumpkins ready to decorate.

“At Stanaford Elementary, they do a pumpkin decorating contest, so pumpkins will go to all the students in the school,” said Gunnoe. “Any excess will go to the low-income communities and senior activity programs to help with occupational skills.”

She added the cantaloupe and watermelon graduates planted on Wednesday will go to local senior programs and feeding initiatives.
