Heat & humidity drive Friday temps into the 80s; cold front brings iso. thunderstorms

Friday is a day with a good mix of sun and clouds. A cold front is looking to move in late in the day providing those big puffy cumulous clouds mid-day. Temps soar into the mid 80s for most with the exception the highest of mountain tops. The extra humidity to the day will be a good one to stay hydrated if working outside.

By the evening, a pop-up shower or rumble of thunder is possible with most remaining dry. Showers will rain themselves out heading into the nighttime hours. We do have a good set up for a storm or two to get a little rowdy with strong winds the main threat. The isolated nature, however, will keep this risk very low. After midnight a cool breeze kicks in from the northwest as lows dip into the upper 50s.

Saturday high pressure moves back in positioned towards our north. Plenty of sunshine with a few high level clouds helps temps push into the low 80s. A touch less humidity for a comfy way to start Father’s Day weekend. Watch the UV index as burn times will be in less than 15 minutes!

Father’s Day, Sunday is going to be a perfect day to celebrate all dads. Sunshine pushes temps into the upper 80s by the afternoon. Camping, fishing, grilling, or sitting on the porch spending time with dad, all are golden as high pressure keeps us nice and dry. Just know we’ll be feeling that summer time humidity by the afternoon.

Monday a mostly sunny day will see clouds building into the afternoon. Highs still running well above average nearing the 90 degree mark. The mountains will fall just shy but a few south and west of Beckley certainly have a good shot at crossing the 90 degree line. Heat and humidity driven thunderstorms are possible in the early evening but fade as the night progresses.

Tuesday a partly sunny day once again features building clouds into the afternoon as heat and humidity driven showers and thunderstorms are back in the forecast. Temps still manage the low 90s but those that see showers will notice a drop in temps. After the rain ends, sunshine will return providing the overly humid feel that comes with quick summer downpours. Showers fade into the overnight hours as our cold front passes with lows in the balmy low to mid 60s.

Wednesday our potential heat wave continues with highs in the 90s and high humidity. Heat index, what it feels like, will rise into the upper 90s nearing 100. In this heat it is important to keep yourself safe and avoid outdoor activities from 10am to 4pm as much as possible. Take breaks, drink plenty of water, and keep an eye on you and those around for you heat exhaustion and heat stroke signs. An afternoon pop up shower or rumble of thunder is likely with very heavy rainfall. After the rain ends, humidity levels will be running high enough to cause health concerns for those with pre-existing conditions.

Thursday is the same with highs in the 90s and high humidity. Another day to take care of yourself and those in your life that struggle with the heat. Check on neighbors and friends. While sunny for much of the day, afternoon pop up downpours and thunderstorms come with the heat and humid air-mass.

In your extended forecast summer begins on June 20th with the summer solstice observed at 4:50pm and we look to feel every bit of the summer heat. The second half of June is looking well above average with several 80 degree days. Summer heat and humidity also means summer afternoon storms.
