RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office warned members of the community about the reappearance of scam calls.

According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, scammers are pretending to be from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office and are calling and leaving messages for people in the community.

The scam calls state that the person receiving the calls missed court and will be arrested unless they pay a fine over the phone, and that the person will be arrested if they physically go to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office.

An app is being used by the scammers that makes the call look like they are coming from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office. Not only do they use an app to make the phone calls appear legitimate, they also learned names of deputies at the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office through social media, news articles, and more.
