Gillian Welch, David Rawlings Announce Album And U.S. Tour, Share New Song
Folk country duo Gillian Welch and David Rawlings have announced a new album, Woodland, due out on August 23 on the pair’s Acony Records. This is a follow-up to their Grammy-winning 2020 covers album, All The Good Times (Are Past & Gone). Woodland is Welch’s first album of original material since 2011’s The Harrow & the Harvest, and Rawlings’ first since 2017’s Poor David’s Almanack. Welch and Rawlings shared the first single lifted from their new album, “Empty Trainload of Sky,” while also announcing an extensive U.S. tour that kicks off on July 23 in South Burlington, Vermont, and finishes up on December 5 in Port Chester, New York.

Professor Leslie Y. Garfield Tenzer has been named the recipient of Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University’s 2024 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. The Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching recognizes that outstanding pedagogy occurs in a variety of settings at the Law School—it can be found in courses of all sizes and types, in teachers with diverse styles, and across subject matters. Each spring, the Faculty Development Committee selects as a recipient of the award a member of the tenured or tenure-track faculty or a visiting professor with a contract longer than one year in duration. The award typically is based on the faculty member’s teaching during the current academic year.

Recently, July 16, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced a record State investment of nearly $51 million for public safety on Long Island. Nassau County agencies received $1,494,692 and Suffolk County agencies received $1,307,677 for the GIVE funding cycle that runs from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. This funding also includes approximately $21.1 million in one-time capital funding to 39 police departments and sheriffs’ offices – including $387,042 for the purchase of law enforcement technology and equipment to allow those agencies more effectively solve, reduce and prevent crime.
Vape disposal boxes available in Putnam
CARMEL- The Prevention Council of Putnam has initiated a system allowing for the safe disposal of vape products countywide. Despite warnings of the dangers of vaping, the Centers for Disease Control reported recently, e-cigarette monthly unit sales increased by 46.6 percent—from 15.5 million units in January of 2020, to 22.7 million units in December of 2023; prefilled device sales decreased, while disposable device sales increased; and sales of sweet, youth-appealing flavors increased.
