Mother Outraged After Beech Grove Student Seen On Video Being Bullied

BEECH GROVE, Ind. — A woman in Beech Grove is demanding more clarity on just what will be done after her son was seen on video being beaten and bullied at Beech Grove High School.

The video shows two students attacking Stewart Khanthamany in what appears to be a hallway closet. She got a phone call from the school informing her that he son had been in a fight. She was not happy with how the school handled the situation.

“As soon as I walked into the school I said take me to him. They took me to a conference room and had to pull the keys out to unlock a door. He was there by himself sitting,” Debbi Khanthamany said to WISH-TV. “The fact that my baby wasn’t protected… I felt like he should have been protected by somebody.”

She then got video of the incident from another student and it shows Stewart being punched and kicked while he lay on the ground. One of his football teammates is seen stepping in to quell the violence.

Khanthamany said it should have been an adult who stepped in immediately. She said even though her son was the victim of the whole incident, the school wrote him up for disciplinary action. The school district is not speaking to what disciplinary action, if any, the students seen beating him up will face.

“It would be inappropriate to discuss the details of individual student matters publicly,” said Mitzi Garman, a representative of Beech Grove City Schools. “I can confirm that our administrative team promptly handled the investigation, and communications were rendered according to policy.”

Khanthamany hopes that by speaking up it will prompt Beech Grove City Schools to take better action in the future should something like this happen again.
