Above average warmth continues through next week
This last week has been warm, and feeling warmer recently due to more humid air. However, temperatures have been close to or even below average for late July. This coming weekend through next week, and likely through the first full week of August, it will be warmer. While parts of the Plains and Midwest will be turning hot next week, our temperatures won’t be nearing record territory. However, there will likely be at least a few days with heat indices in the 90s.
A warmer, humid Saturday-Sunday
Winds will remain out of the south this weekend, and temperatures will rise a bit from the previous couple of days. Thanks to the humid air in place this weekend, the heat index will be closer to 90 degrees. Not extraordinary for this time of year, but warm enough to pace yourself and stay hydrated.
Frequency One Fest gets underway in Rochester
(ABC 6 News) — All things creative are taking place in Rochester as the Frequency One Fest got underway on Friday. The gates opened earlier on Friday for the festivities, and it will remain that way until Sunday. The festival features 16 bands and over 30 vendors with everything from Hennas, clothes, yoga, and even sound healing.
Assistant principal for Century High School has been chosen
ROCHESTER, Minn. - Century High School shared in a Facebook post that Jennifer Thurston will round out the leadership team as the new assistant principal. Thurston started her career at Rochester Public Schools as a counselor, both at the elementary and secondary levels. She has spent the last five years at John Marshall High School. And served as the Lead Counselor this past school year and provided administrative support at the elementary level for 'Summer of Discovery.'
Closure coming to 2nd Avenue SW and 3rd Street SW in Rochester for Farmer’s Market
(ABC 6 News) — On Wednesday, July 31st, 2nd Street SW and 3rd Street SW in Rochester will be closed due to the Farmer’s Market. 2nd Avenue SW will be closed from 3rd Street SW to 4 Street SW, and 3rd Street SW from 2nd Avenue SW east to the alley.

Rollingstone veteran accepts Quilt of Valor
William “Bill” Schell, of Rollingstone, was presented a Quilt of Valor at the Winona American Legion. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1966 and went to Naval Station Great Lakes in Chicago for boot camp. He was on Brother Duty, with his brother Ed, on the USS Bayfield stationed in Long Beach, Calif., and had a tour to Vietnam for two years and 13 months as a welder. He was sent to welder school and then worked with the Navy Seal team for six months back in Vietnam on night boat duty in the open waters, which was a pretty dangerous job. In October 1969, Bill was discharged from active duty in the U.S. Navy.

Lonsdale Community Days grand marshal announced
Scott Pelava, owner of Lonsdale Auto Works, was chosen as the 2024 grand marshal for Lonsdale Community Days, happening on Saturday, August 10. Pelava opened Lonsdale Auto Works in 2005, providing service to the Lonsdale area for 19 years so far. He has been an active member of the Lonsdale Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC), serving two terms on the board of directors for them.
