Centre County Man Sues Geisinger, Microsoft-Owned Company over Data Breach
A Centre County man has filed a federal lawsuit against Geisinger Health and a Microsoft-owned information technology provider for a data security beach that may have affected more than 1 million patients. James Wierbowski claims in the lawsuit entered Monday in the U.S. Middle District Court of Pennsylvania that the Montour County-based health system and third-party vendor Nuance Communications Inc. failed to maintain adequate security measures to safeguard personally identifiable and personal health information. University Drive Bridge to Be Closed for Preservation Work
A detour will be in place for about a month as a State College bridge near the Penn State campus is closed for preservation work, according to PennDOT. The University Drive overpass above East College Avenue will be closed beginning Monday, July 8. PennDOT anticipates the project to be completed by mid-August, but all work is weather-dependent. PennDOT's official detour during the closure will utilize East College Avenue, Porter Road and East Park Avenue. The project "will improve safety and ride quality for motorists by bringing the quality to a higher standard," according to PennDOT. The 66-foot-long bridge carries an average of 11,688 vehicles daily. Charles S. Hann, Inc. is the contractor for the $2 million project. The University Drive bridge is one of three to be improved under the contract, with work on the other two to take place in 2025. Berkadia Brokers $24.5 Million Sale of Student Housing Property Near Penn State
State College, Pa. — Berkadia has brokered the $24.5 million sale of Blue Course Commons, a student housing property located near the Penn State University campus in State College. Matthew Stefanski, Zachary Pierce, Maura Spellman, Kevin Larimer and Brandon Buell of Berkadia represented the seller, College Town Communities, in the disposition of the property to Pennsbury Capital. Located at 446 Blue Course Drive, the community offers units in townhome configurations and was 100 percent occupied at the time of sale.
OC woman accused of biting girl, kicking officer
Nicole Jones, a 41-year-old woman from Oil City, is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, for attacking and biting a teenage girl, and kicking a police officer during her arrest. The incident occurred on Sunday on Colbert Avenue, where police found Jones chasing a boy, who reported she had bitten him. Jones, incoherent and injured, was accused of punching, pulling the hair, and biting a 15-year-old girl, requiring medical attention. During her arrest, Jones resisted and kicked an officer, leading to her being dragged to the police cruiser. She was arraigned on several charges and is in Venango County jail, with a preliminary hearing set for July 10.
Penn State football again seeking an assistant video director
Penn State football found itself needing to make a hire for its award-winning video staff this offseason when former assistant video director Joe Loosemore left for a promotion on former Nittany Lions defensive coordinator Manny Diaz’s Duke staff. In early June, it filled the void by plucking New Jersey native Kyle Lane away from Georgia. However, that arrangement lasted less than a month. Lane is no longer listed in the athletic directory and the program has re-posted the position he filled.
