BELLEFONTE — Kelly Scott Voice Studio and Poppy Designs were each awarded $2,500 recently by Bellefonte SpringBoard to aid in implementing each business’s ideas.

SpringBoard, an initiative by Downtown Bellefonte Inc., is a small business and innovation center, according to its website, that “provides coworking, business resources, programming and more.”

In an effort to revitalize downtown Bellefonte, SpringBoard helps invest in the development of business ventures, including providing financial support through grants. This is the fourth round of grant funding SpringBoard has provided to local businesses, made possible by the Centre County commissioners and SpringBoard sponsor Arize Federal Credit Union.

“As part of our mission to support local business and help create a vibrant and diverse business community in Bellefonte, DBI is honored to support Kelly Scott Voice Studios and Poppy Designs with a $2,500 SpringBoard grant,” said Michael Scott, president of the board of directors for DBI. “It’s our organization’s hope that the grant dollars allow them to grow their businesses and continue to support entrepreneurship in the region.”

In addition to the monetary value awarded to both businesses, each business was awarded access to workshops and SpringBoard’s facility resources as a part of the grant.

Karly Scala, owner of Poppy Designs , noted that the business would use the grant funding to purchase a computer and software to assist with design work.

“When I first came across the grant opportunity, I was really excited to see my local community supporting entrepreneurs like me,” Scala said, noting how she also planned to use the SpringBoard space and attend workshops to help her business. “For me, it was less about the money and more about the connections and awareness I would gain for my business.”

Kelly Scott, owner of Kelly Scott Voice Studio , noted that her vocal coaching business has recently expanded and moved into a larger studio space. The funds will be put toward equipment needed for the new voice studio.

“Springboard is a community that is full of business owners and business supporters who are walking the walk,” Scott said. “They are dedicated members of our community who are eager to see our community thrive, and see other local businesses do the same.”
