A team of federal, state and local officials are in St. Clair County this week assessing damage from flooding that swept through the region in July.

Heavy rains - more than 8 inches in some places - caused extensive flooding in St. Clair County and elsewhere in southwestern Illinois.

St. Clair County Board Chairman Mark Kern issued a disaster proclamation for the county as a result of the flooding.

The St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency reports on its Facebook page that representatives of the county agency, Illinois Emergency Management Agency, Federal Emergency Management Agency and Small Business Administration are conducting preliminary damage assessments this week. The assessments will be used to seek state and federal aid for flood victims.
