$2M grant helps Troy get one step closer to starting Great Miami River Project
TROY, Ohio (WKEF) -- The City of Troy received another grant, this time from the state's 2024 capital budget to go toward the Great Miami River Recreation Connectivity project. A house for sale in Maumee has gone viral on the “Zillow Gone Wild” Facebook page for an eccentric feature originally meant to deflect unwanted attention: the house is covered — floor to ceiling, inside and out — with bulletproof Lexan paneling. The house, previously owned and occupied by Trudy Stranahan of the Champion Spark Plug Company’s founding family, also boasts a robust driveway that cost an estimated $300,000 to build, plus $100,000 in fences. Breezeways connect the house to two outbuildings, one of which hosts a gym with myriad equipment, in addition to more workout equipment inside the main house. “She was just a unique person,” said Hanna Modene, a Realtor with the Jon Modene team at Re/max Masters, which listed the property. “I don’t think she liked not having security.” The property sits on five acres overlooking the Silver Lake and bordering Side Cut Metropark. It was listed last week for $399,900.

Teen drivers have opportunity for free training
LIMA — Teen drivers will have an opportunity to practice crash avoidance techniques with a licensed instructor on a closed course at Lima Senior High School on Aug. 7 and 8. These free four-hour sessions are organized by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Traffic Safety Office and will help teen drivers learn skills like skid recovery and how to deal with an anti-lock braking system.
Lima Police Department investigating body found in wooded area downtown
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima Police Department is investigating a body found Monday afternoon. Around 12:30 p.m., police received a report of a body found in a wooded area on the corner of Jackson and Market Street, beside the train tracks. The body had been there for a significant amount of time and appeared to be male. There were no signs of a struggle or clues as to the cause of death where it was found. The deceased individual was sent to the Lucas County Coroner to determine their identity and cause of death, but a report may not be complete for several weeks.
