A BMW was stolen from a Washington airport, and two men used a garage door opener found inside of the vehicle to break into a home, police said. The owner was traveling overseas at the time.

The men were seen trying to steal a safe from the home at about 2:50 p.m. July 10, the Bellevue Police Department said in a news release.

Police said the burglars started the day before at the same home at 8:44 p.m. The men broke into the home and stole a safe that had paperwork, jewelry and a Yeti cooler, police said.

They were then spotted at the home the next day trying to steal another safe with more than $100,000 inside of it, police said.

One of the men fled the scene in the homeowner’s stolen black BMW, which was taken from a parking lot at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, police said. He crashed into an officer’s vehicle as he did, damaging it.

A 43-year-old man tried to flee from police in a stolen black Chevy Avalanche, but he got caught in between a tree and an officer’s vehicle, police said.

The man ran away, got into a box truck and drove off, police said.

He was caught on Interstate 90 and arrested on multiple charges, including residential burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and hit-and-run unattended vehicle.

The other man has not been caught by police as of July 15.

Police said the men were captured on the homeowner’s surveillance camera.

    The investigation is ongoing.
