13-year-old cyclist was ‘deliberately targeted’ when driver struck them, WA cops say

A driver intentionally struck a 13-year-old cyclist when she swerved into a bike lane and hit the teen, deputies in Washington said.

The teen was riding home from a park at 8:22 p.m. Saturday, July 13, the Bellevue Police Department said in a news release.

Suddenly, a silver Hyundai Elantra full of kids swerved into the bike lane and struck the teen, police said.

One person also threw a black Puma shoe at the teen and screamed, police said.

“Witnesses told the responding Officer it appeared the juveniles in the vehicle deliberately targeted and swerved into the victim,” police said in the release.

The injured cyclist was taken to a hospital where he was “treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.” His bike was “severely damaged.”

Now, authorities said they are trying to identify the driver and the passengers, accused of second-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief.

A video shows the silver vehicle driving through an intersection a minute after the hit-and-run.

Police said the driver appeared to be a young female with black hair.
