Raul Navarro, Occidental College – Organic Chemistry as Molecular Architecture
Raul Navarro, assistant professor of chemistry, looks at one avenue to do so. Raul Navarro was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Yale University, then traveled back to California to conduct his graduate studies at Caltech, where his research focused on the total synthesis of propellane alkaloid natural products. After obtaining his PhD, Raul made his way up north to Stanford University, where he investigated the development of chemical genetic tools to study protein function. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Occidental College, where his research group investigates the development of new transition-metal catalyzed reactions to construct bioactive molecules.
Neighbors concerned after burglars hit Woodland Hills homes
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating multiple burglaries in Woodland Hills that have neighbors concerned. Police confirmed a burglary on Del Moreno Drive happened on Friday, as well as another one on Winnetka Avenue in Woodland Hills on Monday. One victim of the burglaries said that he saw three masked men in his house from his indoor cameras. "They went ahead and did what they needed to do in my house--robbed me of my valuables, robbed me of my integrity," said Andres Godinez. "They robbed me of everything. It's not only just about the valuables. I just feel violated." Neighbors are so concerned with the crime that they are calling for an emergency meeting. They are considering making the community gated to keep criminals out. The LAPD said in a recent report that residential burglaries were up from last year across Los Angeles.

Jo Marie Reilly, MD, MPH, professor of clinical family medicine, is the recipient of the 2023-2024 USC Associates Award for Excellence in Teaching. This award recognizes outstanding faculty members who have a proven track record as exceptional teachers with a positive, inspiring, and long-lasting effect on students’ learning, along with extraordinary or pioneering contributions to excellence in teaching. Reilly holds a dual appointment with the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
