A Powerball player claimed a big prize after narrowly missing the $35 million jackpot, Washington lottery officials said.

The player won $1 million during the Aug. 24 drawing.

The player claimed their massive chunk of change on Aug. 28, a Washington’s Lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News by email.

The player, who is remaining anonymous, bought the ticket from an ARCO gas station on Guide Meridian Road in Lynden, in Whatcom County, the lottery office said.

The ticket matched all five winning numbers but not the Powerball, scoring them a $1 million prize instead of the jackpot, McClatchy News previously reported.

The winning numbers were 5, 15, 21, 24 and 43 with a Powerball of 17, the lottery said. The Power Play was 3.

No one has hit the jackpot yet, so it has grown to an estimated $54 million, with a cash value of $26.8 million, ahead of the next drawing on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

Lynden is about a 15-mile drive north from Bellingham.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
