BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON - There has been recent discussion throughout social media in the Bellingham Metropolitan area about the arrival of MOD Pizza in Sehome Village, as the chain was issued a building permit all the way back in 2022. At one point, Sehome Village was even listed on MOD Pizza's website as "Coming Soon." However, recent checks on the WayBack Machine show that the listing has been removed, raising questions about the status of the project.

Additionally, a building was recently completed in Lynden for MOD Pizza, but there has been no sign of activity or signage indicating an upcoming opening. Exterior construction of the Lynden location was finished some time ago, even pretty much before the construction of the adjacent Taco Bell inside the same complex.

Bellingham Metro News reached out to both cities for comment. The City of Bellingham's Planning and Community Development Department responded, stating that while a building permit was issued for the Sehome Village location on December 13, 2022, no inspections have been scheduled since then. The city has not received any further communications from MOD Pizza regarding the new restaurant. The building permit is set to expire on December 12, 2024, giving MOD Pizza some time to complete the project if they choose to do so.

The City of Lynden also provided an update, mentioning that the exterior shell of the building in Lynden is expected to be finalized by the end of the week. However, they have not yet received the Tenant Improvement permit for the interior. MOD Pizza's agent has confirmed that initial impact fees have been paid, indicating that there is still intent to build out the location as a MOD Pizza, but no further details are available at this time.

Bellingham Metro News has reached out to MOD Pizza for comment and is awaiting a response.

    WHAT IS MOD PIZZA?

MOD Pizza, a popular fast-casual pizza chain, was founded in Seattle, Washington, in 2008 by Scott and Ally Svenson. The name "MOD" stands for "Made On Demand," highlighting the company's commitment to personalized service and fast preparation.

One of the aspects of MOD Pizza is its customizable menu, which allows customers to design their own individual-sized, or "MOD Sized" pizzas and salads. With a variety of toppings, sauces, and cheeses to choose from, diners can tailor their orders to their liking. These creations are then quickly baked in a high-temperature oven and promptly served to customers.
