BELLINGHAM, WA – Interesting news for downtown Bellingham! Two new "Portland Loo" public restrooms are opening this weekend, located at the corners of East Chestnut and Railroad Avenue and East Magnolia and Railroad Avenue.

Designed by the City of Portland, these innovative restrooms are easy to clean, hard to vandalize, and help deter crime more effectively than traditional restrooms. The Portland Loo's unique design includes open grating and interchangeable components, making repairs straightforward and maintaining a fresh, natural outdoor scent.

These new restrooms will be open 24/7 and will be monitored and maintained by the city’s facilities staff. Reporting maintenance needs is convenient through the city’s SeeClickFix app (cob.org/fix).

    What is a "Portland Loo"?

The City of Bellingham now has three "Portland Loo" public restrooms throughout downtown, aimed at providing greater access to restrooms and improving sanitation. The locations are:

    • Waypoint Park – 1145 Granary Avenue
    • Corner of Railroad Avenue and Chestnut Street
    • Corner of Railroad Avenue and Magnolia Street

The Portland Loo is designed with ample space for wheelchair users or strollers. It is easy to clean and resistant to common vandalism, with open grating and interchangeable components that make repairs simple and ensure a naturally fresh outdoor scent.

Bellingham’s commitment to improving public amenities and ensuring cleanliness and safety is evident with the addition of these new restrooms.
