BELLINGHAM, WA – Trader Joe's has filed for a building permit to open a second location in Bellingham at 4255 Meridian St. The application, currently under review, was submitted on July 18, 2024, for a tenant improvement project that will transform the space into a new grocery store.

The proposed location sits on a sizable 110,673 square-foot lot in the Bakerview Addition, Cordata GBSP Tract area. B & T Design and Engineering, Inc. from Issaquah, WA, is listed as the applicant, while Meridian Kellogg LLC, Cordata Center LLC, and J. Hughes Construction, Inc. are involved in the project.

In addition to the building permit, a demolition permit was issued on July 3, 2024, for the partial demolition of offices and the entrance vestibule at the same address. This permit, valid until July 3, 2026, follows Bellingham Metro News's report in late June about the demolition permit filing.

The project marks an exciting expansion for Trader Joe's, which already has a location in Downtown Bellingham. The new store is expected to bring more grocery options and convenience to residents in the area, and could reduce traffic congestion and ease parking challenges at the downtown location, especially with the high volume of Canadian shoppers.
