New bill would help keep people with their pets in D.C.’s shelter system
A proposed bill that would help people with pets experiencing homelessness access D.C.’s shelter system is making its way through the D.C. Former DCist staffers launch worker-owned local news site
Six former staffers at DCist – the local daily news site which WAMU acquired in 2018 and shuttered in February – are set to launch a worker-owned local news website. The site, called The 51st, will not be a relaunch of DCist. For one, founders say it’ll be a weekly newsletter instead of a daily news site. But The 51st will feature the sort of content DCist was known for: event guides, curiosities, the quirks of D.C. life and history, and deeply reported stories.
