LAKE GENEVA, Wis.—If the Beloit Memorial boys basketball team wants to keep its Southern Lakes Conference title hopes alive, it needs to take care of the rest of its league games.

So far, so good for the Purple Knights as they overcame a 32-30 halftime deficit to take down Badger 67-62 on Tuesday night.

Brock Walser paced the Badgers (7-13, 3-8 SLC) with 13 first-half points while sophomore Amare Hereford scored nine points and Diego Perez added eight for Beloit before halftime.

Hereford popped off in the second-half to surge the Knights (14-4, 7-3) into the win. He hit a pair of treys and scored 19 points after halftime. Senior Jyrell Cousins added four buckets from the paint in the big half.

Walser finished 10-for-15 on free throws and totaled 24 points for Badger while Alec Welch ended with 10. Hereford paced Beloit with 28 points with Cousins next with 12 followed by Perez with 11.

The Knights next travel to face Wilmot on Thursday at 7 p.m.

    • ELKHORN 53, BIG FOOT 40: Senior Hudson Torrez scored 21 points in his return to the court but the Chiefs couldn’t find enough shooters elsewhere as they fell to the Elks in non-conference action.

Torrez, who missed Monday’s win over Jefferson, was the only Big Foot player with more than one field goal in the first half as he jumped out with nine points. Elkhorn’s (10-9) stout defense helped it take a 30-18 lead by halftime.

Torrez scored 12 points after halftime to finish with 21 points for the Chiefs (10-9) but Nordmeyer’s nine points was the only other production they had. The Elks were paced by Payton Moore, who scored 12 points.

    • GIRLS BASKETBALL: HONONEGAH 70, BELVIDERE NORTH 20: Conference champion Hononegah continued its sweep through the NIC-10 Tuesday night, burying the host Blue Thunder to run its record to 17-0.

The Indians, who have won four straight NIC-10 titles, hiked their conference winning streak to 55 games with one game to play, a regular-season finale at Rockford Jefferson on Thursday night. Overall, Hononegah is 26-4.

Sophomore Jordan Dimke scored 17 points in Monday’s 53-22 rout at Belvidere and matched that against the Blue Thunder. Eleven Indians in all scored. Kylie Simpson was next high with nine and Allyson Niedfeldt and Danielle Franz each had eight.

The Indians had 15 treys by nine shooters. Simpson led with three.

Hononegah had all the points it needed in the first quarter when it scored 21.
