    Beloit College men's track team fifth in Wisconsin Private College Championships

    WAUKESHA, Wis. — Beloit College’s men’s track and field team captured four first-place finishes and a pair of runnerup spots on its way to fifth place in the 13-team Wisconsin Private College Championships held at Carroll University.

    Beloit’s women’s team finished seventh.

    For the men, the lone winner on the track was Alexandre Atou, who won the 400 meters in 11.16 seconds — the best time in the Midwest Conference this season. The Buccaneers’ other firsts were by Caden Anderson in the javelin (49.71 meters) and Diontia Charles in the high jump (1.90 meters).

    The Bucs collected a second place from Nate Otis in the 400 hurdles (a MWC-best 56.31). Beloit’s 4x400 relay of Atou, Daniel DeGeorge, Izzy Zewdie and Otis finished second in a MWC-best 3:23.49.

    Beloit’s 4x100 relay of Ayouba Sumoaro, DeGeorge, Otis and Josh Yearby was third in 43.02. Yearby placed fourth in the 200 (22.60).

    Bucs finished 4-5-7 in the high jump with Kevon Mills reaching 1.80, Otis 1.75 and Michael Myles 1.70. Joshua Martinez Marte placed sixth in the shot put with a 13.29 throw.

    For Beloit’s women, Candis Damste sailed to first in the 200 dash (25.76) and the 4x400 relay of Sophia Miller, Damste, Jaeonie Echols and Alayna Furch was first in 4:07.98 (tops in the MWC).

    The 4x100 relay of Echols, Damste, Hannah Welte and Furch was third in 50.03. In the field events, Beloit’s best finishes were sevenths by Elizabeth Kalk in the high jump (1.50 meters) and Haley Carlin in the pole vault (2.61 meters).

    The Bucs host the Beloit Relays at Strong Stadium on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.

    Men’s team scores: Carthage 162, St. Norbert 148.5, Ripon 96, Carroll 87, Beloit 72, Marquette 56.5, Lawrence 41, Concordia 36, Wisconsin Lutheran 22, Bryant & Stratton 12, CU Alumni 11, Edgewood 2.

    Women’s team scores: St. Norbert 166, Carthage 144, Ripon 101, Carroll 79.5, Concordia 65, Marquette 49.5, Beloit 37, Lawrence 33, Wisconsin Lutheran 30, Edgewood 28, CU Alumni 4, Lakeland 4, Bryant & Stratton 3.
