BELOIT — BBQ and square dancing just might be on the agenda for Beloit Sky Carp pitchers Noble Meyer and Thomas White during the upcoming MLB All-Star break.

The duo is headed to Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas to participate in the MLB All-Star Futures Game on Saturday, July 13.

White and Meyers will represent the Miami Marlins on the National League squad, which is filled with 25 up-and-coming star players from around the NL. They will face the American League team, which also is filled with 25 minor league players, as a part of All-Star weekend at the Rangers’ home stadium.

The celebrity softball game is later that night at 7:45 p.m. The Home Run Derby will start at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 15 while the 94th MLB All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, July 16.

The Futures Game began in 1999, when the format was a team composed of minor league players from the United States vs. a team filled with MILB players from outside of the US, regardless of what levels the athletes were at.

In 2019, the game changed to pit the American League against the National League, and it has given fans a chance to look how the potential future of their team looks pitted against other rising ballplayers.

Meyer and White certainly fit the bill of potential aces in the majors.

Meyer, who is ranked as the top prospect in the Marlins’ system according to MLB Pipeline, was drafted 10th overall in the 2023 MLB Draft out of Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon.

The Tualatin, Oregon native had a 2.65 ERA and batters hit just .149 off of him in eight games at Low-A Jupiter before he was called up to Beloit, where he made his first start on June 1.

Meyer made three starts with the Sky Carp, missing a pair of starts due to a non-serious injury, and has a 4.50 ERA in 12 innings pitched. He has allowed two home runs, but batters are only hitting .150 off of him and he has 12 strikeouts.

White was also drafted in 2023, the 35th overall pick out of the Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. He was ranked as No. 3 prospect in Miami’s system for much of the regular season but has moved up to the No. 2 spot with a recent update of the rankings.

White sported a 3.18 ERA in eight games with the Hammerheads, striking out 44 batters and holding the opposition to a .274 batting average.

In five starts with the Sky Carp, White holds a 3.27 ERA with 34 strikeouts. Opposing batters are hitting just .205 off of him in those 18 innings and he has walked only eight players.

Also attending the Futures Game will be Cooper Pratt, who was picked in the sixth round by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2023.

The shortstop out of Magnolia Heights High School in Senatobia, Mississippi is hitting .313 with 31 RBI in 211 at-bats with the Low-A Carolina Mudcats.

Jaison Chourio, the younger brother of Brewers’ outfielder Jackson Chourio, will also play in the game as a member of the Cleveland Guardians’ Low-A Lynchburg Hillcats. The center fielding is hitting .270 with 24 stolen bases and 47 runs batted in.
