The Cashie 12U All-Star team didn’t just win a state championship, they went undefeated in doing so.

The Cashie 12U team traveled to Benson this past week to play in the State All-Star Tournament. The team had already won the District Tournament without losing a game and went on to win the state title by staying undefeated.

“This team has never ceased to amaze me,” Coach Allison Hoggard said. “Each player brought a little something different to the game. I am extremely proud of each player on this team. They have worked hard to accomplish this goal.

“The girls said in the very beginning that they were not playing two games and going home,” she added. “These girls showed up and showed out. We are Cashie!”

Cashie began their play on July 18 against Rock Ridge.

They started out the first inning with several hits and two runs scored.

The team had some hits in the second and third innings of play, but were unable to score any runs.

Cashie came back in the fourth inning scoring five runs.

Going into the fifth inning, the score was 7-0 and Cashie was up.

The Cashie girls scored four more runs and established the final score of 11-0.

The following day on Friday, the Cashie girls faced the Foot Hills 12U team.

Cashie had several hits in the first and second innings, but they started with a slow start and were unable to score any runs in the first two innings of play.

They came back in the third inning with strong bats again and were able to put five runs on the board.

Foot Hills was able to score one run in the third inning.

Cashie finished the game in the fourth inning, scoring six runs.

The final score of the game was 12-1, Cashie victory.

The Cashie girls continued on in the tournament for a third game facing Johnston County Central on Saturday, July 20.

Once again on Saturday the Cashie girls started out the game slowly, not scoring any runs for the first three innings of play.

Johnston County Central was able to score two runs in the third inning.

Having a slow start didn’t stop the Cashie girls as they came into the fourth inning ready to play and scored five runs.

Although they did not score any runs in the fifth inning, Johnston County Central was able to score two runs in the fifth inning.

The Cashie girls continued to battle and scored two more runs in the sixth inning. Johnston County Central also scored two runs in the sixth inning.

After a bit of a slow start and a nail-biter of a game, Cashie was still able to pull off the win with a final score of 7-6.

On Sunday, July 21 the Cashie 12U All-Star team faced the Western Harnett 12U All-Star team for the championship game.

Cashie started off the game strong with the first four batters in the lineup all getting hits and scoring.

They continued to get several hits in the second inning only scoring two runs in the second and none in the third or fourth.

Cashie put two more runs on the board in the fifth inning along with Western Harnett.

In five short innings the final score of the championship game was 8-2, Cashie victory.

“I would like to say thank you to Cashie Youth League for putting on an amazing District Tournament,” Hoggard said. “All of our Cashie teams felt the love and support from all of the volunteers who helped make the tournament such a success.

“I would also like to say thank you to all of the parents of these girls,” she added. “Thank you for letting me coach them just a little bit longer this summer. I have truly enjoyed it.”

The team members include Katie Gray Fairless, Paisley Ray, Kelton Cale, Sally Rhodes Williams, Ellen Warren and Chloe Hoggard, Kadence Jackson, Lilli Wells, Kiera Lasiter, Heidi Matthews, Summer Brown and Logan Jernigan. The coaches are Amanda Hoggard, Don Lassiter, Courtney Hoggard and Allison Hoggard.
