Garden State Parkway backed up for 15 miles after portion buckles in New Jersey

‘Pavement heave’ on Garden State Parkway causing multi-mile delays
Emergency repairs were underway to fix a “pavement heave” on the southbound side of Garden State Parkway that has caused multi-mile delays in Ocean County, officials said. A pavement heave is a ripple or crack in the asphalt that can be caused by moisture under the pavement that is subjected to high temperatures. The asphalt can be compromised when the heat causes the water underneath it to turn into steam.
