31st Annual Blues and Jazz Fest Returns to Frontier Park
For over 30 years, the Erie Blues and Jazz festival has been one of Erie's most unique and important music festivals, hosted at Frontier Park. This summer fixture has featured world-class artists alongside local talent, who perform for thousands of residents over the first weekend in August. It's long served as a showcase for both up-and-coming artists and music legends, and carrying on the tradition this year are Dumpstaphunk, Barbara Blue featuring Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, and Terrance Simien and the Zydeco. A second stage, at the McCain Amphitheater, which is located near the Griff Slides, has been added that will feature local music performances, along with blues-based karaoke hosted by Matt "Broke" Boland.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Martín Pérez pitched six scoreless innings, Rowdy Tellez homered into the Allegheny River and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat St. Louis 5-0 on Wednesday to take two of three games from the Cardinals. Pérez (2-5) allowed four hits, three in his final two innings, and walked five with two strikeouts. The 33-year-old left-hander entered with a 5.61 ERA after allowing 11 runs in 8 1/3 innings over his last two starts. “I got confidence,” Pérez said. “It doesn’t matter. Every outing I’m always going to trust my stuff. That happened today. I was able to compete and throw a lot of pitches in the strike zone.” Tellez chased Matthew Liberatore (2-3) at the start of the fourth inning by sending a fastball 447 feet into the river beyond the wall in right field, extending the Pirates’ lead to five runs.

Philipsburg, Pa. — An unconscious woman awoke and attacked two responding EMS personnel who found her lying on the sidewalk, police said. KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) -- Toll booths will soon be a thing of the past on the eastern and northeastern portions of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.Officials spoke more about the upcoming switch to "open road tolling" on July 24.The cashless, free-flowing mode of collecting tolls eliminates the need for separate toll lanes and booths. All you'll need to do is drive under a collecting gantry and have your EZ Pass mounted if you pay that way."You don't have to do anything different, your tolls will still be collected, sent to you in mail if you're toll-by-plate or deducted from your EZ Pass account," said Craig Shuey, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission's chief operating officer. The commission says the new approach will help keep traffic moving — and make the highway safer.Open road tolling will take effect on Jan. 5, 2025 on all parts of the turnpike east of Reading and on the Northeast Extension.PennDOT wants you to make sure you mount your EZ Pass tag in your vehicle and have all your information including your vehicle and credit card updated.Toll booths for the remainder of the PA Turnpike, from Reading and westward, will be eliminated in 2027.
