Floodgate operations underway at Wirtz and Starcke dams following recent rains
BURNET COUNTY, Texas — The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) has opened several floodgates at Writz Dam and Starcke Dam following recent rains in Central Texas. While the risk for widespread heavy rain and flooding is decreasing for the rest of the week, river flooding on the Llano River remains a concern as floodwaters push downstream. This has prompted a River Flood Warning in effect through Thursday morning, as well as the LCRA opening some floodgates.
LCRA opens floodgates upstream from Lake Travis
The Lower Colorado River Authority opened floodgates at Wirtz Dam and Starcke Dam, allowing water to travel downstream to local lakes. “Two floodgates are open at Wirtz Dam and three floodgates are fully open at Starcke Dam,” LCRA said in its flood operations report. “The runoff is flowing from Lake LBJ into Lake Marble Falls through Wirtz Dam, and from Lake Marble Falls into Lake Travis through Starcke Dam.”
