High school roundup: North Pitt baseball tops Bertie; Rose jumps to 9-0

North Pitt grabbed its first baseball win of the season, 13-7 over Bertie on Wednesday night in a back-and-forth battle.

The Panthers (3-6) scored twice in each of the first two innings, but that was only enough to offset the Bears’ four-run second. NP plated three more in the third to take the lead for good and withstand another Bertie rally before the Panthers smashed home six more in the late innings.

North Pitt made the most of seven hits, all singles, and six Bertie errors. Leadoff man Quintaris Price had three of those hits, Kolby Burroughs added two and Bryce Henderson and Dylan Moore drove in two runs apiece in the win.

The Panthers host Beddingfield on Friday.

    J.H. Rose 6, South Brunswick 2

Visiting Rose grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning and held it until a three-run burst in the fifth briefly made it 5-0, and the Rampants never trailed as they jumped to 9-0 this season.

Leadoff man Owen Simmons stayed hot with a double and two RBIs, Ethan Simmons also doubled and drove in a run and Andrew Wallen was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Rose hosts West Carteret on Friday.

    Ayden-Grifton 9, Pamlico County 5

The Chargers (7-2) chalked up their second win of the young season over the Hurricanes, having already beaten them in late February.

The win was sandwiched between two difficult Eastern Plains Conference games against Farmville Central, which won the first of those two by a 12-1 count on Tuesday.

Rose made quick work of the Rams on Wednesday night in non-conference play.

The win inched the Rampants closer to .500 at 4-5 this season. They have a chance at evening their record next Wednesday at red hot Farmville Central.

Greene Central (0-6) remained in search of its first win and was back in action on Thursday at home against 2-5 SouthWest Edgecombe.
