Free adoptions offered at Rocky Mount Animal Services
Monday is the last day the Rocky Mount Animal Services will be offering free pet adoptions at its animal shelter on Church Street. Although there are other expenses that go along with adopting a dog or a cat, at least the initial $45 adoption fee won’t be one of them. NOAA recommends Jacksonville, Cape Fear project funding
Recommendations for the second round of funding through the Transformational Habitat Restoration and Coastal Resilience grant program include two projects in North Carolina. Parking Violation leads to arrest
KPD officers were called to 2407 N Herritage Street regarding a vehicle parked in a fire lane with the keys locked inside. Upon arrival, officers began addressing multiple fire lane violations. During this time, Marilyn Fields (66 of Kinston) attempted to drive away from the fire lane. Officers stopped Fields and attempted to address the violation, but she refused to comply with the investigation. Fields continued to resist officers and was eventually taken into custody. She was cited for the fire lane parking violation and arrested for resisting a public officer. Fields was released on an unsecured bond.
Local high school grad headed to Utah for two-year mission trip
High school graduate Wade Coffield of Rocky Mount is going to spend the first two years of life post high school as a missionary for the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Coffield will be headed to Ogden, Utah, in September. Narcotics trafficker sentenced to 50 years
A high-volume cocaine supplier to lower-level drug dealers in the Rocky Mount area who had once fired shots at a person has been ordered to serve 50 years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm by a felon, authorities said. Andre Downey, 37, was sentenced July 8 by U.S. District Court Judge James C. Dever III in a federal court in Raleigh, according to online court records. ...

Detectives not facing charges after fatally shooting man near South Kerr Avenue
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – No law enforcement will be facing charges in connection to the fatal shooting by deputies that killed 34-year-old Steven Ryan Todd on June 13.
