Pirates designate LHP for assignment again as part of shuffle
The Pirates announced that infielder/outfielder Ji Hwan Bae has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and right-hander Hunter Stratton has been reinstated from the 15-day injured list. They opened one roster spot yesterday by placing outfielder Bryan Reynolds on the bereavement list and opened another today by designating left-hander Josh Fleming for assignment.
U.S. Steel testing emergency evacuation system at Clairton plant on Saturday
CLAIRTON, Pa. (KDKA) -- U.S. Steel will be conducting emergency tests at its Clairton plant on Saturday.The company will test emergency system equipment from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 27. U.S. Steel says the annual test makes sure the plant's emergency system is working so employees and surrounding communities can be protected in case of an actual emergency. The test will begin with a simulated emergency and evacuation, using sirens, lights and loudspeakers that U.S. Steel says will be heard in nearby communities. The plant's emergency systems will be activated one at a time, and the company says there are five distinct areas that will be tested, taking up to seven hours. Local government and emergency agencies, including fire, police and Allegheny County 911, have been notified, U.S. Steel says. U.S Steel's Clairton plant is located on 400 State Street in the Mon Valley along the Monongahela River.

Van Jefferson Quickly Securing Steelers WR2 Spot
The Pittsburgh Steelers are only through their first two days of training camp, so it would be unwise to draw any major conclusions. After a long offseason, though, it is fun to talk about who is standing out and who hasn’t lived up to expectations. A key standout for the Steelers so far has been new wide receiver Van Jefferson. Although Jefferson just came to Pittsburgh this offseason, he entered camp as the favorite to win the Steelers WR2 job. Through two days of camp, he is further cementing himself as the frontrunner for that spot.
Reynolds out for at least three games, Bucs make several moves
The Pirates made several roster moves official before they kick off a road trip in Arizona against the Diamondbacks. The Pirates placed left fielder Bryan Reynolds on the MLB Bereavement List on Thursday.
The Japanese House Comes to the Roxian; Historics at Pitt Race (Sun., 7/28/24)
British indie-pop musician Amber Bain brings her acclaimed project, The Japanese House, to the Roxian Theatre this evening for a concert. She plays plays guitar, synthesizer and keyboard; as well as singing. Just off touring with Maggie Rogers, Bain has recently released her country-influenced single “:)” aka Smiley Face. The moniker “The Japanese House” was inspired by a stay at a cottage in Cornwall, England, that she and her family had vacationed at for a week during her childhood. The property had been previously owned by Kate Winslet and was furnished in a Japanese style. Her latest EP is ITEIAD Sessions (In the End it Always Does) contains live versions of songs from her second album In the End It Always Does. It was released in 2023. The record “highlights heartbreak and love lost, emotional reflections on childhood trauma and identity, and the album finds the artist embracing her pop side like never before with help from Matty Healy and George Daniel (The 1975), Katie Gavin (MUNA), Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and Charli XCX among others.” Special guest is Allison Ponthier. 7 p.m. 425 Chartiers Ave., McKees Rocks.

Report: Duquesne to Play Against Familiar Ivy League Team
It looks like we can add another game to the Duquesne basketball 2024-25 schedule. According to national basketball insider Rocco Miller, Duquesne and Princeton are working on an agreement to play for the second-straight year. As Miller detailed in his report, the two teams are looking to play at CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, New Jersey on Nov. 8.
