Escambia County School Board approves land purchase for new Beulah school

BEULAH, Fla. ( WKRG ) — The Escambia County School Board approved the purchase of land for roughly $3.9 million.

The school will sit along Beulah School Road between Mobile Highway and Helms Road. The property is half a mile from Beulah Elementary School and two miles from Beulah Middle School.

Escambia County Superintendent, Keith Leonard, said the board is unsure what grades will be assigned to the new property. Yet, he believes it will help the issue of potential overcrowding with other schools in the area.

“What we’re thinking about doing is that one of those campuses having a K through 2, be called a primary school, and then on the other campus, having what’s called an intermediate school, whether it be three, four and five, or maybe three, four, five and six,” said Leonard.

Although overcrowding isn’t a serious issue at the moment, Leonard believes these plans for this new school will alleviate any capacity issues.

“We’re doing everything we can to provide a good, solid experience for all of our students where there’s plenty of room to grow academically and also have really nice facilities,” said Leonard.

The school board intends to have plans finished in the next six months.

Construction will hopefully begin in the next year and the school is estimated to take a year to complete.
