Man led police on high-speed car chase with 2-month-old baby in the car

A man who cops say was connected to a robbery in Beverly Hills, led police on a high-speed car chase with his 2-month-old daughter in the car.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said they received a report of an armed robbery involving three men in the Beverly Hills area of LA. The suspects ditched the car they were traveling in and two men escaped, with the third jumping into a Kia Sedan and speeding off.

The suspect, who was later identified as 21-year-old Daiyaan Henderson, is believed to have carjacked the vehicle. He led the police on a pursuit , with his infant daughter, and the mother of his child in the car. It is unclear when they entered the vehicle. Henderson was said to be driving extremely erratically, swerving in and out of traffic and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Eventually, Henderson encountered a dead end in Culver City, and police cruisers were able to block the vehicle in. Henderson allegedly held up his baby daughter to police in an apparent act of surrender, as his baby’s mother also exited the car, surrendering to police.

The sheriff’s deputy Tony Lomedico said: “When a baby’s involved, it escalates everything and you have to be on top of your game, and I feel like everyone was at the top.”

Sheriff’s deputy Adriana Martinez said: “My concern was the baby. She was crying so I just wanted to comfort her. My motherly insects kicked in and I was just trying to soothe her, stop her from crying. We ended up taking care of her.”

The baby was handed over to police where she was medically treated at the scene. She was fed and changed and fell asleep shortly after, with police describing her as being “ok.”

Officials said the baby’s mother was released from custody after determining that she was the victim of a kidnapping during the car chase. She was reunited with her baby. Henderson faces charges including kidnapping, carjacking, armed robbery and ex-felon in possession of a firearm. LASD said he was live streaming the car chase as he was driving.
