DETROIT – The leader of a large drug trafficking ring that operated out of a Detroit hotel was sentenced Wednesday, July 24. Darrick Bell, 55, was convicted in June 2022 on three drug-related charges. He was acquitted on one count of sex trafficking and the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on four other sex trafficking charges.

(CBS DETROIT) - A St. Clair Shores doctor was sentenced to 20 years in prison for unlawful prescribing after his patient died of a drug overdose, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced on Thursday.Dr. Bernard Shelton, 67, was found guilty of 21 charges related to unlawful distribution of prescription drugs. He has been banned from prescribing drugs since 2017.Federal officials said in 2010, Shelton prescribed opioids to a 54-year-old patient who was previously treated with prescription-strength Motrin. Birmingham police officers were summoned to the 800 block of Forest Avenue on Tuesday, July 9, after a patient was accused of assaulting a dental assistant. The victim, a 25-year-old female dental assistant from Oxford, was hit with a water bottle by a 62-year-old female patient.
