7th Annual Free Snake River Family Festival Saturday At Boyer Park & Marina
COLFAX - The Port of Whitman County’s 7th Annual Snake River Family Festival is coming up on Saturday at Boyer Park & Marina. The event includes a free BBQ lunch and ice cream, live music, exhibits and tours of Lower Granite Dam. The port hosts the free festival to highlight the benefits of the Four Lower Snake River Dams. There will be a raffle for a half day guided jet boat tour of Hells Canyon. Dam tours will be from noon to 2:00. Tour participants must wear closed toed shoes and provide a valid photo ID. The fest if free and open to the public.
Orofino Police Sergeant Passes Away due to Cardiac Event
OROFINO - The Orofino Police Department announced Wednesday morning that Sergeant Michael Deitrick has passed away. According to Orofino Police Chief Vincent Frazier, Deitrick suffered a cardiac event at his home on Tuesday night. Despite life saving measures by medical personnel, Deitrick succumbed to the event at Clearwater Valley Hospital.

Farmers on Pace to Double Hemp Crop Acres in Idaho
BOISE - Idaho farmers are on track to plant almost twice as many hemp acres as they did last year. According to the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation, Gem State farmers planted 1,273 acres of hemp in 2023, according to the Idaho State Department of Agriculture. That was up from 459 acres in 2022, the first year that Idaho allowed farmers to grow the regulated crop.

As Idaho revenues fall short, hopes for another big budget surplus dwindle
BOISE - The days of record-breaking state budget surpluses appear to be over in Idaho, at least for the time being. With the state approaching the end of its fiscal year on June 30, state revenues came in below projections in April, the most recent figures publicly available. For the month of April, revenue came in $60.3 million below projections, missing the mark by 7.2%, according to the Idaho General Fund Revenue Report published May 22.

City Of Pullman Accepting Public Comments Regarding Proposal To Restrict Short Term Rentals Like Airbnb
PULLMAN - The City of Pullman is accepting public comments about its proposal to restrict short term rentals like Airbnb’s. The city’s planning commission will review the proposed regulations this summer. The six pages of draft rules include requiring permits, online advertising mandates, occupancy restrictions and having a property manager available within a 30 minute drive of Pullman. Under the proposal Airbnb operators would be charged 350 dollars for an initial permit and 150 dollars for annual renewals.
