    We’re Back!

The NAEC was just the beginning! This Saturday and Sunday, June 29 and 30, hordes of racers, spectators, parents, and more will swarm the Raging River trail system for the third stop of the 2024 Cascadia Dirt Cup. And alongside the oh-so-serious adult, youth, and e-bike racing, we’ll be running another, much-more-serious competition. That’s right! We’re crowning another Main Character of the Race!

For the uninitiated, here’s a rundown on the competition, and the rules (spoiler: there aren’t many of them). Here at Bike Mag we remain convinced that without the fans, bike racing is just a bunch of dorks in silly clothes mouth breathing in the woods. Cheering, heckling, offering (un)helpful advice on line choice - the fans are the soul of any event. But too often, the spectacle is their only reward. Until now. We’ll be celebrating the most dedicated, loudest, most committed spectator at Raging River with the “Main Character of the Race” award presented by 5 Hour Energy and Bike Mag.

This competition is open to both spectators, and volunteers. So Course Marshals, Timers, and the like, don’t feel left out, we appreciate you so much! This competition, much like most heckling, is loose. All you need to do is show up (preferably in costume, bonus points for group, themed costumes) and make some noise all race weekend. We’ll have a crew out on course all day Saturday and Sunday handing out cash prizes to the best hecklers.

At the end of the day, we’ll award a $200 prize, and the coveted GOLDEN CHAINSAW to the heckler who brought the biggest main character energy to the race. No registration, email signup, or anything else required. Just show up, and blow it out!

    Rules

Remember, heckling should add to the race experience, not detract from it. Stay out of the way of racers, keep it positive, and stick around to cheer ALL the racers on. If you’ve got some awesome heckle antics going on, and the camera crew misses you, feel free to tag @bikemag and @5hourenergy in your stories, and we’ll hustle over and check out your scene.

That’s it, show up, blow it out, make some noise! We can’t wait to see you on course!
