A South Carolina man is facing charges after he allegedly called his neighbor a racial slur and approached her with a hatchet.

According to WBTW , 23-year-old Kyle Lawson Lowder was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature in connection to the August 1 incident.

On the night of the incident, police were responding to a report about a disturbance at Ranchette Circle. A responding officer was told by bystanders that the suspect was a "skinny white kid" who had previously been involved in a domestic dispute.

The officer approached Lowder, who he recognized from a prior incident involving his incident. Lowder was allegedly “uncooperative and showed signs of intoxication. He was verbally aggressive and refused to comply with instructions.”

Lowder later admitted to being “f— up” and throwing a bottle in anger, according to a police report. The suspect said he was upset because of his girlfriend coming over “which in previous situations has led to Law Enforcement being called due to domestic violence issues.”

According to witnesses, Lowder beat on the walls and pulled out a hatchet during the incident. Video shows Lowder approaching the neighbor with the hatchet and calling her a racial slur.

Lowder also allegedly made threats “as he walked toward her with the hatchet being held in his hand over his head in a motion consistent with someone about to make a slashing motion with an axe or hatchet."

Lowder was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Thursday and released on a $40,000 bond on Sunday (August 4).
