    Announcements:

    — There is still an active burn ban for Bingham County, excluding forest lands or government agencies. All previous burn permits are cancelled. Campfires must be monitored and located in fire rings away from structures with a shovel and running water on hand.

    — Blackfoot School District 55 decided last week to make the first day of school (Aug. 21) for seventh graders only at Mountain View Middle School. The school is yours for a day!

    — July was Bingham County Beef Month, which was declared a bit late this year – but it isn’t too late to enjoy a steak and send thanks to the ranchers that made it possible. Did you know there are about 2.5 million head of cattle in Idaho?

    Happenings:

    — Wednesday night Music in the Park in Blackfoot features Barclay Band and 237 Band this week. The rocking and rolling is at Courthouse Square Park from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

    — Dawn Enterprises is hosting its community appreciation picnic and social on Friday, Aug. 2, at Jensen Grove. Come help them celebrate 50 years of service with a free dinner and a fun time, starting at 6:30 p.m.

    — Also on Friday, the Shoshone-Bannock outdoor concert venue is featuring Gary Allan and Chase Bryant, starting at 8 p.m. For details and tickets visit shobangaming.com/event/gary-allan .

    — Blackfoot Farmers' Market is every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1800 East Airport Road until the end of October. Need zucchini?

    — The Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce is hosting a golf tournament on Tuesday Aug. 6 at the Blackfoot Golf Course. To register or sponsor a team, call 208-785-0510. There are still spots open – and lunch at Bogey Café is included in the price. Yum.

    Services update:

    — This is the last week for Blackfoot School District 55’s free breakfasts and lunches. To bridge the gap before school starts on Aug. 21, Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist Church is giving out free lunches on its front lawn for those 18 years or younger. It will be giving out lunch bags from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday through Friday from Aug. 5 through Aug. 16.

    — Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency of Blackfoot is now outfitting students for school with backpacks and school supplies for any families that qualify for assistance – and more families qualify than you’d expect. Call 208-785-1583 to see if you do. It also can help pay for school fees and emergency utility assistance.. SEICAA of Blackfoot is located at 206 S. Spruce St. and open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., except for a lunch hour at noon, Monday through Thursday.

    Service opportunity:

    — If you want to help SEICAA, it could use more dry erase markers of any size and any color.

And now for the rest of a previous story:

    — SEICAA’s pink, plastic flamingos gathered $1,620 this June - $400 more than last year! Currently SEICAA's flamingos are resting up for next year’s flocking season.
