Five juveniles involved in crash near Birch Tree, patrol says

Five juveniles were injured in a Howell County accident Thursday evening, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

A 15-year-old female was driving a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta northbound on County Road 459 three miles north of Birch Tree when she traveled off the right side of the road and overturned, patrol said. A 13-year-old female was ejected from the vehicle and seriously injured, patrol said.

The driver was taken by Mercy EMS to Mercy St. Francois Hospital in Mountain View with minor injuries. The ejected occupant was transported by Air Evac to Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

Two occupants – a 12 and 13-year-old female were taken by Mercy EMS to Mercy St. Francois Hospital in Mountain View with minor injuries. Another occupant, a 13-year-old female, was taken by private vehicle to Ozarks Healthcare Center in West Plains with minor injuries.

Three of the five involved were wearing safety devices. The Jetta was totaled.
