    SPHL MVP Carson Rose staying with Birmingham Bulls

    PELHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Southern Professional Hockey League’s most valuable player is staying in Birmingham.

    Forward Carson Rose will continue competing with the Birmingham Bulls, which made the announcement Wednesday. The 2023-24 SPHL MVP recorded a league-high 65 points in his third professional season.

    The left-handed shot notched 30 goals and 35 assists in his last campaign, topping the league in shots on goal with 241. Rose’s goals and points in 2023-24 are the most in a single season for the Bulls. Forward Josh Harris is the other skater to win an MVP honor as a Bulll, accomplishing that feat in the 2018-19 campaign.

    A native of Surrey, British Columbia, the 28-year-old Rose competed at NCAA Division III College of St. Scholastica before joining the Bulls for the 2021-22 campaign. In his rookie slate, Rose compiled 24 goals and 17 assists over 50 contests.

    The next season, Rose totaled 30 points in 27 games with the Bulls. He did split time in 2022-23 with the ECHL’s Indy Fuel, where he recorded five goals and four assists in 24 contests.

    The Bulls start their 2024-25 campaign against the Huntsville Havoc at the Pelham Civic Complex on Oct. 18.
