MANDAN, ND ( KXNET ) — The Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is currently seeking public feedback on their Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), as they look ahead at improving the metro area transportation network.
Several people attending Mandan’s Art in the Park festival on Wednesday, July 3, visited the MPO booth to see the preliminary recommendations that the organization is considering for improving the metropolitan area’s transportation network in the future, including the cities of Bismarck, Mandan, and Lincoln.
The Bismarck-Mandan Area Metropolitan Transportation Plan takes into consideration future needs as they pertain to public transit and roadways, as well as bike and pedestrian pathways.
Those who stopped by the booth also had the opportunity to provide their input, which will aid MPO in refining the MTP as they prepare a more formal plan to be completed by the end of the year to address the transportation needs of the cities.
According to MPO Executive Director Rachel Lukaszewski, proactive transportation planning is necessary to meet the future transportation needs of the community, as the metro area continues to grow and expand.
Lukaszewski says the Federal Government requires MPO to update their transportation plan every five years as community needs change.
“So, we can be responding in this planning process to identify not only what those needs are, but how we can plan for those needs and potential problems in the future,” she said.
MPO’s “Bismarck-Mandan Area Metropolitan Transportation Plan, Arrive 2050” provides an analysis of current transportation conditions and Lukaszewski says it will also provide a forecast of future needs as they pertain to public transit and roadways, as well as bike and pedestrian pathways.
MPO Executive Director Rachel Lukaszewski, says proactive transportation planning is necessary to meet the future transportation needs of the community.
In addition to taking public feedback, Lukaszewski says MPO also works with the municipalities, which include the cities and counties, to find solutions to improve the metro area transportation network.
“We [also] work collaboratively with DOT, federal highway, and federal transit, to identify what those solutions would be, and also to identify sometimes a priority to best serve the community,” she explained.
For people who did not get the opportunity to visit the MPO booth, they are also seeking additional written feedback about improving Bismarck and Mandan’s transportation network.
