BISMARCK N.D.– Michael Fagerland and Marcus Butts have been a huge part of the Govs success this season, but their relationship goes beyond the diamond.

“he’s a great person off the baseball field. He’s amazing on the baseball field too, and he’s an even better teammate to round that all together,” Marcus Butts said. “it’s easy to play baseball when you ahve a guy like him motivating you. When things are going bad he’s always there being a positive factor, and you know it goes vice versa kind of with both of us too.”

He and Fagerland have been there to motivate each other for a long time. They have been playing together since the age of nine.

“I knew we were both pretty good players,” Michael Fagerland said. “When I was nine I wasn’t the greatest. Marc was probably the better player on the team, but we’ve been going back and forth ever since then, and it’s been fun to have.”

That battle between the two will continue at the collegiate level. Butts and Fagerland will share the diamond at the University of Mary.

“You know I heard he was going. i think he committed a little earlier than I did, and when i found out he was going there it just kind of made me even more excited to make my final decision to go to UMary as well,” Butts sais. “I’m more than excited to be out there with him next year, so it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

“It’ll be a huge friendship to have, and always going on to the next step it’s nice to have people that you know,” Fagerland said. “And having a guy like Marc close by, it’ll be awesome, so I’m excited.”

That excitement extends to Govs head coach Mike Skytland, who looks forward to seeing what the duo can do at the next level.

” I think they both have… their upside is definitely there. You never know how stuff is going to turn out in college, it’s very competitive, but both have the talent to play at Mary,” Mike Skytland said. “it’s going to be fun to see, and i think they both have an opportunity to do well at the University of Mary.”

Fagerland and Butts are aware of the challenge that lies ahead and are ready to take it head on.

“You kind of gotta step into a pool where you’re not going to be the top dog anymore. You gotta go earn everything you work for, so we’ll kind of just both put our heads down. Maybe we’ll find each other going to do some stuff on our own, together,” Butts said. “Maybe going to hit on our own and stuff like that, because you know it’s not going to come easy right away at college, it never does, never will. But having him and the great coaching staff they have out at UMary, I feel like it’s going to be a great process for us leading into future years at UMary as well.”
