BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — A quilt made by Sister Nancy Gunderson was chosen to be displayed during the 2024 Juried International Quilt Festival in Texas.

According to a news release, the art quilt is titled “Joan,” and will be on display from October 31 through November 3 in Houston.

The quilt depicts Joan of Arc holding a sword while a feather floats above her shoulder. Gunderson hopes that by showing her quilt, she can introduce people to Joan of Arc and help them understand the woman who changed French history.

Joan of Arc represents deep listening, faith, determination, and courage, she followed her voice by leading troops into battle at Orleans.

In 1431, she was burned at the stake as a heretic. In 1450, the verdict was overturned, and in 1920, she was declared a saint by Pope Benedict XV.

Gunderson started quilting 30 years ago and this quilt is made of 1,370 pieces. It’s required five months of cutting, piecing it together, and sewing.
