BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — A man was arrested for assaulting a Bismarck Police Officer in the north part of the city on July 17.

According to police, a 35-year-old man was riding a bicycle in the middle of the street in the 300 block of Astronaut Drive without lights when a four-year Bismarck PD veteran stopped him around 11 p.m.

When the officer explained the reason for the stop and was checking warrants, the man fled.

The officer caught up to him and told the man he was under arrest and the man immediately resisted — according to police, the man grabbed and squeezed the officer’s genitals, attempted to gouge his eyes, and spit on him several times.

When backup came, the officers were able to get the man into custody and brought him to the Burleigh Morton Detention Center.

The officer was seen by medical staff and was treated for bites, cuts, and scrapes.

The man is allegedly being charged with Assault on a Police Officer, Refusal to Halt, Criminal Mischief, Preventing Arrest, and Contact by Bodily Fluids.
