BISMARCK, N.D. — Every high school athlete’s goal is to play at the collegiate level, and for former Bismarck high star Paige Breuer, she has accomplished that goal. However, her journey to find the right place for her future was filled with ups and downs.

Breuer originally committed to Southeastern University, an NAIA school in Florida, ending a long process. But two days later, the former Demon got a call from the head coach learning that he was leaving for a different job and Breuer to re-evaluate her options.

“I was torn apart cause you spend all this time trying to make a decision,” she says. “And then you finally make a decision and you’re feeling great and you have no regrets and then there’s a bump in the road. That week was very hard. I know I was very upset and sad, but I knew that any of my other options, like I had no wrong answers. So, no wrong commitments anywhere that I could pick. So, it gave me a little bit of hope and I knew that God had me and this was meant to be.”

Breuer saw this opportunity as a second chance, re-opening her recruitment and decided to look at every option. After a couple of weeks, she committed to Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. The one place that felt like home on and off the court.

“I wanted a home away from home,” Breuer says. “I’ve known forever that I wanted to explore somewhere else. I love it down there. It’s in middle of the mountains. I had lunch with the team and they were the one team that felt like my BHS team. That was huge for me cause I didn’t think I would ever find another BHS team, but they were the girls that felt like family and home. Of course I love the coaching staff and they’ve got great facilities and then they also have a really good pre-med program, so everything was just perfect there.”
