Disposables Make Puppets At Black Diamond Museum
What does one do with the popsicle stick once they’ve finished the frozen treat? How often does a used lunch sack go into the garbage? And what about a paper plate – does it serve only one purpose? Not according to D’Ann Tedford, aka “The Puppet Lady”. She will be visiting Black Diamond Museum on Wednesday, July 24 to demonstrate how she’s created puppets from many household items that would normally be tossed away.

The Kent Cornucopia Days Grand Parade took to the streets on Sunday, July 14 to entertain the crowd with dancing, music, politics and humor. Several dance groups, bands, politicians, dancing horses, the Seafair Pirates and the Seafair Clowns were among those who participated in the parade down Fourth Avenue Sunday afternoon, the third and final day of the July 12-14 festival that attracted thousands of people.

Just over a year after the Renton Reporter published the story of John Houston and his family’s fight for reparations from the Renton School District, several more articles have been written, a radio interview has been conducted and video segments have been made. Awards have even been garnered for the journalists who have written about the Houston story.
One-Year-Old cat With Life-Threatening Postpartum Complications Receives Critical Care at Local Humane Society
On July 8, a 1-year-old female cat was brought to the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County after being discovered by a community member near an apartment complex dumpster. The cat, now named Marzipan, was lethargic and unable to move, suffering from severe mastitis, a painful infection of the mammary glands that can lead to life-threatening sepsis.

Emerald Downs: Corgi Madness!
It was Corgi Championship day with more than 100 Corgi’s set to make their run on Sunday. Fields of 12 lined up for 5 qualifying heats after the 2nd thoroughbred race and then 4 more qualifying heats for a total of 9 were run after the 3rd race. The winners earned their way to the Championship heat with last year’s champion for a field of 10 and was run after the 5th race.
