Tacoma Teen to Face Adult Prosecution for Alleged Shooting of Police Detective
In a decisive move that could set a precedent for juvenile crime cases, a Pierce County judge ruled that a 16-year-old boy accused of shooting a Tacoma police detective is to be prosecuted as an adult, reports The News Tribune. The teen, Justus Nassir Kent, faced charges including attempted murder and assault after the August 2023 incident where he allegedly shot detective Justin Brooks, who at the time was conducting an emphasis patrol aimed at recovering stolen vehicles.
Seattle Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting of Man on Stolen Motorcycle in Ballard
A shooting incident in the Ballard neighborhood has sparked a police investigation after a man was found injured in the early hours of Monday morning. According to the Seattle Police Department Blotter, a 33-year-old man was shot while riding what turned out to be a stolen motorcycle. Reports of the shooting at the corner of 15th Avenue Northwest and Northwest 80th Street came in just after 2:00 a.m., prompting a swift response from both police and medical teams.

The extended break on the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series schedule was a chance for many teams to relax and catch their breath before the six-race Countdown in a few months. Seattle cult punk/power-pop legends the Fastbacks have announced their first album in 25 years. It’s titled For WHAT Reason! and will be out August 28 via No Threes. If you’re unfamiliar, Kurt Bloch, Kim Warnick, and Lulu Gargiulo formed Fastbacks while in high school in 1979 and they’ve been constants in the 45 years since. Kurt Cobain was a fan, they put out records on Sub Pop in the ’90s, and their list of former drummers includes a pre-Guns N’ Roses Duff McKagan, Dan Peters of Mudhoney, John Moen of The Jicks and The Decemberists, and Tad Hutchison of the Young Fresh Fellows. Mike Musburger has been their most constant drummer through their history and is with them on this new album.
