Boulder City Council is on summer recess. There will be no meetings July 4, 11 or 18. • Possible conversion of the Boulder Municipal Airport. Two measures, the result of citizen petitions, will be on November’s ballot seeking to decommission the airport and redevelop it into housing. Boulder’s Chamber of Commerce, which represents business interests, last week announced its opposition to the initiatives. Council’s discussion is scheduled to last over an hour.

Today we attended the unveiling of a statue honoring 150 years of volunteer fire service in the city of Golden, Colorado. The department started at roughly the same time as the Coors Brewery and the School of Mines both here in Golden. The department is now a hybrid department with mostly paid professional firefighters with an additional volunteer crew. EMS is provided by an outside agency.
