BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WKBT) -- A Black River Falls man has been sentenced for vandalizing an elementary school in 2022.

19-year-old Bruce Redbird will spend 6 months in jail and pay restitution of $8,459 as part of a plea deal for his role in vandalizing Forrest Street Elementary School in August of 2022.

Redbird, who was 17 at the time, was accused in an act of vandalism that caused more than $1 million in damage to the school , which was under construction at the time. The vandalism displaced students and staff at the beginning of that school year as the damage was repaired.

At his arraignment in April of 2023, Redbird entered a not guilty plea to one felony count each of burglary and criminal damage to property.

As part of his plea deal Tuesday, Redbird pleaded no contest to the criminal damage charge and had the burglary charge dismissed but read in.

Redbird is ordered to report to jail on September 15. He is subject to probation requirements for 3 years, though after 18 months he may be eligible to request early release.
